Canon EOS R5S Rumored to Have 90MP Sensor, Being Tested by Select Photographers
In addition to the newly released Canon EOS R5 (Amazon, B&H, Adorama) and Canon EOS R6 (Amazon, B&H, Adorama) mirrorless cameras, we’ll definitely see several new RF-mount mirrorless cameras and lenses in the next 1-2 years. One of the most anticipated EOS R camera bodies in the future will be the RF mount replacement for the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R cameras, which will probably be called “Canon EOS R5S“.
The latest rumor suggests the high megapixel Canon EOS R5S mirrorless camera is now being tested by a small group of photographers as a finished product, and it will have a new 90MP full-frame CMOS sensor, which “just about doubles” the 45MP sensor of the Canon EOS R5 and would put the cameras into two completely different segments. In addition to the increased megapixels, the EVF will be larger and higher resolution than the Canon EOS R5.
I wouldn’t be surprised that Canon would announce the development of Canon EOS R5S before the end of 2020, and we will see the final official announcement in February or March 2021.
Currently, the Sony a7R IV is temporarily ranked as the highest pixel of full frame camera with 61MP sensor. The ultimate 240 million pixels brought by this camera’s pixel shift multiple shooting mode is even more unique. In the fields of architectural photography, still life photography and art reproduction, the higher resolution brought by the pixel shift technology provides a wide space for later output. If the Canon EOS R5S camera can make a breakthrough in pixel shift technology, the camera will be a very terrifying and powerful full frame high pixel model.
