Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM Lens to be Announced in Early 2018
Canon is indeed working on a new super telephoto zoom lens and it is highly likely that this new Canon super telephoto zoom lens will be announced in the first half of 2018.
As you know, Canon already patented the EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM lens, which will NOT be an “L” lens, but has great optics and build quality, as to not “step on” the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens ($1,999).
The super telephoto zoom lens segment has traditionally been dominated by third party manufacturers with Sigma and Tamron: Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 sports lens ($1,799, $200 off), Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Contemporary ($989), Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 G2 ($1,399), Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 lens ($869). All these 150-600mm lenses are selling really well.
Speaking of the price…this new Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM lens will have the competitive price to compete with both Sigma and Tamron.
We expect Canon to announce this EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM lens in the first half of 2018, at CES 2018 in January or CP+ 2018 in February (along with EOS 90D or EOS 7D Mark III???).
